Tarun Shriram, son of Smt. Roopa Shriram and Sri. Shriram Narayanan, is currently a junior at AITE High School, Stamford, CT.
He was inspired by his father, who is an ardent Mridangist, and thus began his journey into the world of music. He started his formal training at the age of 10 from his guru Dr. Rohan Krishnamurthy, who is an acclaimed musician and disciple of maestro Guruvayur Dorai.
Tarun gave his first stage performance at the St. Thyagaraja Aradhana in Newtown, CT at the age of 11. Ever since he has been accompanying various music teachers and their students in the tri-state area and beyond. Under the guidance of his guru, Tarun performed a special tala vadya percussion ensemble at Eastman’s famed Kilbourn Hall along with members of RohanRhythm Studio.
He was invited by Navatman School of dance to accompany for their annual Bharatanatyam recital at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, NYC. This experience kindled a special interest in him to play for classical dance.
Not limited to Carnatic music, Tarun is also a well-versed trombonist. His hobbies are playing volleyball and, like any other teenager, playing video games.
During this journey, Tarun has won awards at the prestigious Cleveland Thyagaraja Music Festival, Vedic Heritage NY, Raga Club of Connecticut, to name a few.
He aspires to pursue a career in medical studies while having music as a core influence in his life. He is now receiving advanced training from his guru and is looking forward to accompanying various professional musicians.
Expressing his heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported him all these years, he seeks blessings from one and all in continuing his pursuit of this wonderful art form.
